Sparkle, Ladies, Sparkle!
A little angel of a girl with a moplet of curls was discovered by Hollywood in 1932. She was a starlet known around the world by the tender age of six. Her breakthrough performance came in 1934 when she sang, “Baby Take a Bow,” in the musical, “Stand up a Cheer.” She of course went on to do many musicals and sang her signature hit, “Good Ship Lollypop, a few years later.” You can find much information about Shirley Temple, known as the little princess, anywhere you look. Unfortunately she passed away last year, but what a treasure she was!
But the best story I ever heard about her was relayed by a woman named, Martina, whom I met at one of my seminars in Antiqua. She said that before Shirley would walk out onto the stage, her mother would cup her little face with her gentle hands and say, “Sparkle, Shirley, Sparkle!”
Martina and her girlfriends were of moderate wealth when they were in college and never had money for new dresses for any formal dance at school. So before they would walk into a party they would pause, look at each other, and say, “Sparkle, Ladies, Sparkle! Then they would walk in and light up the room with their vibrance and confidence.
Often we, too, need to count on our inner vibrance. The cool thing is our inner vibrance comes from the almighty God who made you perfect in his image. Psalm 37: 5- 6 tells us this:
“Commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him, and He will do this: He will make your righteousness SHINE like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
This week as you face the daily responsibilities of your life you will come face to face with clients, or colleagues or strangers at Kroger. Hold your head up high, smile in your heart with the perfect love of Jesus and, “Sparkle, Ladies, Sparkle!
