Choosing Calm Over Chaos

How many ways are you overwhelmed, distracted and just bombarded by life? We all seem to be pulled in many directions on any given day. Choosing calm over chaos isn't easy, however, it's worth getting a handle on it to preserve our well-being. Chaos is defined as a condition of disorder and confusion or a disorderly mass; a jumble. We read in 1 Corinthians 14:33, "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints." The enemy would have us tangled in confusion and stressed out. Using the acrostic of CALM, here are 4 tips to choose calm over chaos.

C... Call Upon God First

Lauren Daigle is one of my favorite Christian artists. She has a song called, "First." Watch the video at the bottom of this newsletter. The lyrics say, "Before I bring my need, I will bring my heart." When we are stressed out, we often are so encompassed with anxiety, we don't seek God first. Calling upon God first with love, openness and affection, will bring us the sweetest, most precious peace. Even in the midst of our greatest worries, God will supernaturally comfort our souls.

A...Ask For Help

At times, it's the hardest thing to reach out to friends and family for help. Sometimes, someone will say, "Call me if I can help in any way." If they make the offer, they usually mean it, however, rarely do we take someone up on their offer to help. It's okay to accept help. Also, get your family to help out more. My grandson, Keaton, is 11 and when he's over, he is such a great help. He takes out the trash, straightens up, does laundry, and helps cook. Don't carry the weight of running the family alone. You have a family unit and it's everyone's job to make things run smoothly.

L...Laugh & Play

Laughing, as we know, releases endorphins in our brain and make us feel good. We can have stress and chaos in our lives and still have joy. That's what we need to remember. You see, when we call on God first, we will have the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives, We read in Galatians 5:22, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Laugh at a good movie. Play with your kids and pets. Keep your joy and contentment, knowing God has you and all your life chaos under control.

M... Make an Effort to Help Others

We read in the Bible that, "A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." ~ Proverbs 11:25. When you are stressed or down, I promise you helping someone else will lift your spirits. Sometimes I find that it is as simple as being willing to chit chat with someone in public or helping an elderly person. It could be putting a sweet note in your husband's pocket to read later. Reach out in simple, kind ways and your soul will feel good in knowing you are being a shining light. God will take care of your chaos and give you His calm because... God is in love with YOU!

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” ~ Psalm 46:1-3
